- Right-hand traffic with standard European road rules.
- Speed limits: 50 km/h in urban areas, 90 km/h on rural roads, up to 110 km/h on expressways (R), and 130 km/h on motorways (D). Some sections may have different posted limits.
- Low-beam headlights are mandatory at all times throughout the year.
- The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.00%; the Czech Republic has one of the strictest zero-tolerance policies in Europe.
- Seat belts are mandatory for all passengers.
- Mobile phones may only be used with a hands-free system.
- Children weighing under 36 kg and shorter than 150 cm must travel in an approved child seat and may not sit in the front seat.
- An electronic vignette is required on motorways (D) and most expressways (R). It is linked to the vehicle registration number and can be purchased online at edalnice.cz or at authorised sales points. Driving without one may result in a fine of up to CZK 20,000.
- Winter tires are mandatory from November 1 to March 31 when roads are covered with snow, ice, or frost. In low temperatures they may also be required even without visible snow.
- Radar detectors are prohibited.
- Traffic fines may be paid on the spot. Police frequently check documents, especially in Prague and near border crossings.

Do I need an International Driving Permit to rent a car in the Czech Republic?
If your driving licence is issued in the Latin alphabet (including all EU countries), your national licence and passport are sufficient. If your licence is in Cyrillic or another non-Latin script, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is required.
What is the minimum age to rent a car?
Most rental companies require drivers to be at least 21 years old with at least one year of driving experience. Drivers under 25 may be charged a young driver fee.
Do I need a motorway vignette?
