Traffic rules: Tunisia
- Drive on the right. Road signs are displayed in both Arabic and French.
- Speed limits: 50 km/h in urban areas, 90 km/h on rural roads, and 110 km/h on the A1, A3, and A4 motorways. On the island of Djerba, the speed limit is 70 km/h.
- Low beam headlights are required at night, in tunnels, and during poor visibility (fog or rain). Daytime headlights are not mandatory.
- The legal blood alcohol limit is 0.03%. Violations may result in fines, licence suspension, or criminal prosecution.
- Seat belts are mandatory for all passengers.
- Mobile phones may only be used with a hands-free system.
- Children must travel in an appropriate child restraint according to their age and height.
- There is no vignette system. The A1, A3, and A4 motorways are toll roads, payable in cash (Tunisian dinars) at toll booths. A trip from Tunis to Sousse costs about 5–7 TND, while Tunis to Sfax costs around 10–12 TND.
- Winter tyres are not required due to Tunisia’s warm climate throughout the year.
- Cross-border travel is not allowed under standard rental agreements. Rental cars cannot be taken to Algeria or Libya.
